    Precisely, dear Meek.

For we are moving from literate individuals to the electronic tribe.

And as you point out the electronic tribe has a herd mentality - that's what a tribe is.

And as you also point out the tribe members mimic one another just so they are like everyone else, at a particular time. The etribe is like a flock of birds, all flying and feeling together.

You write to me from the point of view of a literate individual, but an etribe doesn't even have a point of view, they all feel the same thing at the same time. And public violence is the best way to achieve this.

Of course, dear Meek, as detached, literate individuals we regard the involved electronic tribe with horror.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

We were owned by the book and the price we paid was individuality. Now we are owned by the electronic media and the price we pay is tribalism

Prnt was once our invisible environment but now the electronic media are our invisible environment.

The literate individual succeeded in becoming free from the tribe. And today the electronic tribe (etribe) is becoming free from the literate individual.

Detached individuality is now a matter of nostalgia.
