If they're ok with that, swearing must have been so commonplace that it lost all significance. No one gave two shits about shit.

    Some Victorian input here -

Though, it would be nice to have people please stfu on the Franga line, it's a pretty dumb law. I can't see it being enforced, only with incredible bias. It mostly just creates a reason/framework to punish and fine youths who carry a 'big presence' in public. It's not about the swearing itself, it's about the general loud, belligerent behaviour.

Anything to me that says 'you can't use words/phrases x, y and z' prickles my censorship radar. People should be able, by law, to use whatever words they want, and it should be common sense and courtesy that keep them in place.

it was slightly before my time so I can't comment. Just saying what we tend to go by.

If you'd like to know more about the reasoning behind your particular infraction, feel free to PM a mod who's been modding a bit longer than me and I'm sure they'll be happy to explain it to you.

    (sorry for the OT)

Feels like wasting police time. Would those guilty of this be able to pay? Is it the sort of law that a lot of oppositional defiant disordered assholes will deliberately try to flaunt?

The reality is that this law will only be enforced when someone is unfortunate to swear near a police officer. I think it is just a law that is intended to give police officers more leverage in controlling other peoples behaviour in sticky situations eg "I won't fine you if you calm down/leave".
