I think this would be a great opportunity to invade Pakistan.

I think so. I was reading some random biographies on him last night, like: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontl...n/who/bio.html
and comparing it with more substantiated biographies.. I think they knew he was there.

Towards the end, I'm not sure if anyone knew *exactly* where he was, other than his courrier and immediate family.

    Therefore, somebody knew.
Thought the compound didn't have Internet or telephone but had electricity...that is, when it was available to all the locals in that area. I did read that electricity for everyone regularly went down for over 16 hours.

One reporter managed to peer into the compound from a building across the street and saw a TV, amongst other things.

As for my guess, someone knew. Now how far up the food chain, there's no way to tell. It might have only been the local officials in Abottabad which would have included the military official(s). A unique and highly secure compound like that, butt up against a military that's supposed to combat terrorism, makes no logical sense. Bet there was a lot of hush money paid out.

I voted yes. I don't know how they could not have known.. Even if he wasn't on dialysis.. someone that age needs medical attention of some sort. His family doesn't support him, so his need for attention had to have resulted in people knowing of his where-abouts.

All right. The report I heard must have been in error. It happens with breaking news sometimes.

Either report might be erroneous or both might be correct, in that the compound might have had it's own generators. No way to know for sure unless they release more breaking news that refers to this.

To look at this from another perspective, the maxim of "hiding in plain view" is one that terrorists adhere to. It's possible that the placement of the compound was deliberate, relying on the arrogance of the military and officials to believe that no one would have the balls to hide so closely to any military facility, particularly in a city that's buzzing with the Pakistan army's 2nd division, as well as a small population (almost village like) of around 120,000. Balls of steel.

Yes but not enough to invade (a little under 440M proven reserves).
