enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1973. UNSCR 1973 authorizes all necessary measures to protect civilians in Libya under threat of attack by Qadhafi regime forces.
Clearly, they weren't joking. Besides, it isn't like we're resorting to nuclear warfare, so that Nobel Peace Prize is still perfectly valid. Nothing to see here...

People say war is peace as if it were a joke, when we should treat the statement as if it were reality, because this is reality.

UPDATE: Conditions set forth by the U.N. Security Council towards resolving the unrest in Libya included the removal of Libyan Leader Muammar al-Qadhafi’s forces from Ajdubiyah. These latest strikes by the MEU aimed at preserving the sanctity of the city and the safety of the civilians within it. In an effort to safeguard the Libyan populace and infrastructure in and around the city of Ajdabiyah from further attacks by regime forces, 26th MEU, as part of Joint Task Force Odyssey Dawn, launched a second round of strikes by AV-8B Harrier jump jets.
You may have missed the update. Obama said no ground troops and that's still what's happening. Note the bolded.

It takes 2,200 Marines to launch Harrier strikes? Nope...

Sounds like a great premise for a joke:

How many marines does it take to get a Harrier into the air?

They will be "peacekeepers" after the cessation of official hostilities.

All warriors are peacekeepers. This is ultimately why they exist. You say the word "after", but does the purpose of a marine change in the presence of hostility? I do not believe that it does.

The Marines? Every Marine is a rifleman. They are not trained to keep the peace; they are trained to effectively kill the enemy. When there is hostility, they're not there to keep the peace, they're there to kill the enemy by any means possible within the laws of war, including escalation of violence.

Because without an enemy, there is no lapse in the peace. You are saying the exact same thing I am saying. How can you not see it? By removing one's enemies, one acquires (by force, by will, by victory, by strength, by desire) a true tranquility

No, you just end up creating new enemies. Conflict is in human nature. There will always be someone who wants what you have, and is willing to do violence to obtain it. This is the essence of war.
