But who attacks soldiers? It takes a soldier to truly fight a soldier. There is a challenge declared, and one must live up to it.

Anyone could attack that soldier. That doesn't make that person a soldier, since they are not necessarily committing violence on behalf of some organization.

They would have to have a good reason to do it. Whatever the cause may be, it is still a cause, and they are still making a conflict. At that point, call that person what you will, it does not matter to me.

Forgive my confusion, but what exactly is your point?

They meant they were ruling out occupation, like in Iraq or Afghanistan, Marine deployment could be simply to control supply lines, keep the guerillas and civilians supplied and prevent the resupply of the Gaddafi forces. Its not a military action but it will result in Gaddafi's logistical defeat if his forces cant be resupplied by sea or air and expend all their supplies in country.

If we end up having to use our military equipment on a continuing basis to ensure stability in Libya, and because of that need troops for logistical support.

These troops ultimately may need to be stationed within striking distance of opposition forces in Libya so that they can maintain equipment we have in the area, and who will suffer casualties as a consequence of this proximity.

Would it be unreasonable to presume that (in lieu of US anger at these losses) we would then initiate offensive military action against our opposition forces.

They so don't call it a war, but if it talks, walks, and quacks like a duck...

This might possibly be the biggest strawman I have ever seen in my entire career perusing online forums
