Yes, USA are a social democracy.

I'd say things first started to go bad with the (controversial) passage of the 16th amendment under Wilson in 1916 making it legal to tax a mans labor
Don't forget the creation of the Federal Reserve Board, wich is even more important.

Who's making the definition here? I don't care what a country officially defines itself. I want a set of definitions based on policy analysis that can be applied across the world.

Oh? Perhaps it was already inevitable once the government stepped in and banned child labor. Or maybe public roads were the tipping point...

I'm fairly familiar with the founding fathers. My first piece of advice is to not refer to them monolithically. They could hardly agree on anything.

Wow, you almost went as far back as I was joking. But still actually not far enough back to account for how long people have been distorting the constitution. That happened as soon as it was ratified. The country is basically built on the process.

I don't know. Maybe Somalia, Liechteinstein or Caïman Island.

Liechtenstein as an independent nation is a historical joke and as a tax haven with more companies than inhabitants (I know of a shipping company that has it's registered location in this double landlocked country!) I don't see it's economic model as universally viable. They do charge personal income tax though, which according to hardcore libertarians is theft.

Socialism in total, I personally don't like, but certain elements and the core principles behind it I can eagerly respect. Like taxing the lving hell out of the super rich and providing more oppertunities to those who are poor.

Or perhaps an economy that can carefully blend the best of capitalism and socialism in one dynamic whole, while also providing a libertarian style way of living.

Wait, wouldn't that be considered Liberalism?

No, not in the Classical sense. That could be either Market Socialism, Social Democracy, and/or Progressivism.

Yes. Several people have already confused it with communism.
