Well, because I can't get a minimum wage job (or less than). For one thing.

Also, there's no motivation for me to move out, because I don't have to. If I did, I might very well end up dead in the streets within a week or two... or I would somehow end up doing what you described, if I were lucky.
At risk of losing my "N" Club card, this discussion is far too revolving around various personal theories and speculations. It probably won't hit any sort of resolution or come to agreement without testing these ideas out.

    EDIT: Interesting poll results.
That's not very helpful, considering that no one is willing or able to test them out.

i propose a field trip for athenian. a few months in an indian sweatshop, sleeping in filthy shared quarters sounds like a go-er.

minimum wage in australia is $15/hour. (1 US dollar currently = $0.99 australian cents)
australia's unemployment rate is currently at 5%.

Have you applied to clerk at the local convenience store? They're usually hiring.

That's the problem, though... business tends to attract very cheap people who are willing to exploit others. Those are the sort of people who rise to the top. And it's them that we all have to appeal to for jobs.
hmmm... The job drove me to an extremely depressed, borderline alcoholic state and due to being robbed I had my identity stolen and broke my kneecap...so no, I DON'T feel particularly blessed

Since I was thinking mostly of you (since many of the rest of us have been part of the adult work force for some time and are speaking from practical experience), and since you're not willing to do that, there's probably not a lot more to say.

I'll toss in a few bucks.

Be that as it may, you shouldn't be surprised at the mere fact that someone died in a hospice. That's what hospices are... places that provide end-of-life care for terminal patients.

(Well, as hard as I laughed at that last comment, hospices are actually there to maintain maximum quality of life in end of life patients.) /End side track.

In my Canadian province, minimum wage is like $8.50, but things seem cheaper in the States. As a student who works a lot of shitty jobs, I hope they don't get rid of minimum wage :P
