Fair enough, but I very much doubt many pre-diaspora semitic people were fair-haired and blue-eyed so the entertainment industry biblical characters probably don't look very realistic.
Yeah, but some Aryans (Northern Indians) were blue-eyed. It doesn't really matter so much to me. People tend to relate to things that look like themselves. There have been representations of Jesus looking like an African-American (and that isn't very historically accurate, either). I try to look at the art without bringing too much baggage to it. I can enjoy Battleship Potemkin and still hate communism.

    There were never Aryans.

I'd bet good money that the actual historical Jesus looked more like Osama bin Laden than anything.

I don't quite get the argument. Jesus wasn't Indo-Iranian and didn't live in the north of India. Jesus was semitic.

Not unlikely. More than Charlton Heston at least.

That would be pretty funny, and you're most likely right. I would imagine that Jesus would have resembled a modern-day native of the Arabian Peninsula or Turkey.

EDIT: Ach, I made an attrocious grammatical error in two of the poll options. Is there any way to correct this?
I think the current situation in isreal can be called nothing other than aparthied. Otherwise, I admit I don't really see the point of moving to Isreal. Why not just move to america, or Europe, or any other democracy? I don't think a literal historicism of the bible is a good reason.

Admittedly, I am biased in this argument, due to my Jewish heritage.

After wandering in the desert, the Jews settle in the area that is Israel.
Their kingdom is overthrown and dominated time and time again.
Emperor Titus of Rome decides that the Jews are rebellious pests, so he scatters them across all of Europe, thus marking the Second Diaspora.
In the 7th century, the Arabs go for the land, Israel, which is now no longer occupied.
In 1948, the Jews regain the land they had lost nearly two-thousand years ago, and yet they are called thieves.

It is silly to say that "it is called Palestine." It has been known as the Kingdom of Israel (ממלכת יִשְׂרָאֵל) long before.

But now there's millions of countries that don't persecute jews, so the whole thing seems pretty much a moot point to me. Also, as for 'bargianing for land' let's not forget that people already lived thier!

Oh, and I should add: Why don't they just make the official religion of isreal voluntary, and end the segregation?

    *currently laughing my ass off*

I love dropping this kind of matchsticks into the instability of political correctness
And well people already lived there when the jews screamed down the walls of Jericho. Remember? But that's beside the point. All I want is to see these violent reactions by people who are absolutely sure that they are right.
That's just as stupid as Jihad.

In real life I mostly agree with FMWarners' point of view.
I hate wars that kill and mutilate people, leaving infrastructure completely destroyed, people starving, diseases, bad water supply, soldiers comitting murders and violent crimes because war has fucked them up, soldiers dying from cancer due to the depleted uranium shells and armor... War is fucking ugliness. Not to mention "terrorism". Even though that is a ridiculously small thing in the world, if you compare it with the stuff that the "insurgents" and the alliance of the willing is doing to the world. I hold none solely accountable, note that.

But I do really wonder what the solution would be for palestine, or israel.
I'd probably give it a third NEW name, and give the Rastafari control of the region, making everyone relaxed with weird music and vast amounts of mary jane.

You would have to prove first that Jesus was an historical character.
There's no direct proof he ever existed at all. :rolli:

Oh, and the poll options seem deeply flawed.

You can agree that Israel has a right to exist, and not agree with some of its current policies.
On the other hand, when you are anti-zionist, it's very unlikely you would agree with Israel's current policies.

As far as I'm concerned, I tend to agree with current leftist zionist figures, like David Grossman, Abraham Yehoshua, Amos Oz, or the Meretz party.

And I share an equal intense dislike for antizionist activists and the Israeli extreme-right.
