I personally love the latitude that my gov't allows me, in being able to determine what is best for me and my needs. It belies a trust of the gov't in it's people that I think is absent most other places in the world.

It raises my hackels any time the gov't surplants my decision making process with its own on the grounds that it knows whats best for me to a greater extent than I do.

The government ought to do what the majority wants. If what the majority wants is against your will, you have to live with it - or leave for a country without democracy. You seem to forget that the world does not revolve around your petty little beliefs.

I never said that. I did say, however, that it is possible to influence what the majority wants.

I think we should take a vote. All in favor of private ownership of firearms will say "aye", and all opposed will say "nay"

This way we can decide what the majority wants, and work from there.

Am I, being from abroad, even allowed to vote?

I wonder what Victor has to say about intellectual protectionism.

Being from abroad would not invalidate you from voting (at least not in the US), but I believe you would still need citizenship in the country you are voting in, be 18 years old, etc.
