We have just been watching the streaming news on Fox. 3/4 of the state is under water and it is not expected to ease until after it peaks on Thursday. It is being called the worst natural disaster in Australia's recorded history. The footage is horrifying!!

Seems like a pretty scary situation you have there I'm wondering now if there are any Queenslanders around on the forum who can keep us updated on how things actually are on the river bed ground... or if there are any such people they're too busy salvaging their pets and valuable, and paddling away in inflatable boats while they still can...

Has there been any indication of when it's going to stop yet? Or is it set to be more of the same (or worse) for some time?

A glimmer in the gloom Did you see the footage where they closed the highway to evacuate and relocate what cattle they could before the paddocks were inundated? Hard to believe that that tree in the background is probably 80 to 100 ft high!

Yes, I saw this on TV - I'm only 15, so this is probably the first 'major disaster' in my whole life in Australia! Maybe other than the Iraq War...

Anyways, I'm surprised how fast the floods are progressing. Honestly I think the government should be rushing to pull people out of towns to somewhere safe. GET SOME GODDAMN HELICOPTERS over.

If you get swept away, I don't think there's any hope. Even if you got to ground, how are you going to get food? 1974 flood is predicted to be a breeze compared to this one - if it ever ends that is.

    Aww, that's cute.

I have been following the news about the floods since we have study abroad programs in Queensland... luckily we don't currently have any students there! Scary stuff. I hope you are able to reach your loved ones soon, strawberries!
