I think for a government to be able to operate at all, there ought to be some minimal level of privacy for operations... like it should take a FOIA request to get copies of inter-office memos, for example.

C'mon... you've got to be able to communicate things you wouldn't want the whole world to see, or you can't operate as a government. And this is coming from me, whose libertarian philosophical leanings are well-known.

I don't think that anyone is trying to argue that ALL information should be public, only that the government needs to be more strict about what it calls secret. I believe that diplomatic cables should be secret, but the content requirements of diplomatic cables should be more strict. It's easier to guard 10,000 secrets than 394,729,472,942,749,237,429,472,397,925,829,746 secrets, for many reasons.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

    Thumbs down A Warning

Wherever we go in the world we and read two words, "Assange", and "Rapist".

And now they have dismembered his organization, Wikileaks.

So first they assassinated the character of Julian Assange, then they assassinated his organization and called for the assassination of his person. All of this in just a couple of days. It's a warning to all of us.

One thing I gotta ask though -- what's up with Assange's hair?

Some have referred to him as an albino, but he has dark eyes, so that can´t really be it.
Aparrently it was a stress related loss of pigmentation:

In 1999, after nearly three dozen legal hearings and appeals, Assange worked out a custody agreement with his wife. Claire told me, “We had experienced very high levels of adrenaline, and I think that after it all finished I ended up with P.T.S.D. It was like coming back from a war. You just can’t interact with normal people to the same degree, and I am sure that Jules has some P.T.S.D. that is untreated.” Not long after the court cases, she said, Assange’s hair, which had been dark brown, became drained of all color.
