I'm actually more conservative than that.

I am pretty sure "Democrat" and "Republican" have always meant "member of the Democratic Party" and "member of the Republican Party." What did you think they meant?

Don't start with nit-picky Si asshattery just to be a troll. Republicans were more socially liberal once upon a time, in fact they were considered to have rather wild and revolutionary young ideas around Civil War times. Being a Democrat as we think of it didn't start until around 1940, and what it means to be a Republican changed wildly in the 70's and 80's, what with the extreme Religious Right movements and neo-conservative Baby Boomers.

It's a lot more complex than that. People say "Well, the Republicans were the liberals back then, and the Democrats were the conservatives." And that is just glib and inaccurate.

From a socio-political standpoint that was pretty much the case, if not a fiscal one.

And yes, Reganomics - a decidedly fiscal topic - came about in the past thirty years, so yes, even that has changed.

That isn't true if you look back through the entirety of the parties' histories. You're using a careless and dangerous mental shorthand.

    Who said anything about Reagnomics?
