Default Consequences of online behaviour, troll jailed

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-11650593

Troll gets his just deserts, heard about this on the radio today, they ran a really good piece about Trolling and a cyber-psychologist (didnt know they existed!) talked about how behaviour in person and online cant be seperated so someone who is acting with licence online under a pseudonom and behaving appropriately in the rest of their lives is storing up trouble whether they believe it or not.

I didnt hear the full story, unfortunately, although they did mention some proceedings or investigations going on in the UK into individuals trolling suicide sites who may have provoked vulnerable people into committing suicide.

What's everyones views on the conseuqences of online behaviour like this?

Sounds as if we are getting closer to 1984's thought crimes.

SERVES HIM RIGHT. This wasn't a thought. This was a multitude of conscious actions meant to inflict harm.

Yeah bullying people on suicide sites and stalking and harrassing families of deceased people is a bit beyond "trolling." Shit like that has to be stopped, and it's definitely not "thought police" it's pretty much stalking and harrassment.

Hey guys look at me! I tell people who are mourning I fornicated with their loved one's dead bodies! I'm a celebrity!

I think he needs a psychiatrist, not jail.

The guy is sick but it bad facts make bad precedents like this which lead to further bad laws or applications of the law.

Putting this guy in jail with a bunch of convicts will unlikely lead to better behavior more likely it will lead to worse behavior.

Its a slippery slope as a negative precedent of government censorship and a chilling effect on other forms of speech.

I'm sorry, you aren't nice enough to play with the other children. We're going to have to put you in a cage now so you won't hurt anyone else's feelings.
