And then tried to change health care... Which, I do think needs a change.... But I think it would have been best to focus on the economy more in the beginning and less on health care... Then once the economy started to improve, then take a look at what needs to change in health care...

I'd really like to shove that pre-existing condition down my insurance providers throat. Nice way to avoid paying to really help a person in pain out. A coworker's wife was denied coverage once..... Chemo to be exact... For cancer.... Because it was a pre-existing condition.

The Clinton Administration did that, they totally cut the deficit and tried to straighten things out outcome? The Conservatives thought it was great that liberals took them seriously and left them lots of money to spend on wars and shit that they like which no liberal is going to want.

Hillary really pushed for the health care reform too.... And was shut down... HARD! I really wish my country would mind their own business... Stay out of other countries and focus on our own problems. I know, I Know, someone's probably going to attack me and say that the other country threatened us, and if we didn't react it would have gotten worse.... but why in the devil are we still there.

I don't know, nothing? It seems like the current party in power is always the bad one. So we'll opt for the other party to gain majority thinking it will fix anything. Then the same shit rinses and repeats. over and over forever and ever until Jesus comes back.

As Psalm 146:3 cautions - "Do not place faith in earthly princes, who cannot bring salvation."
Maybe. The only time a party has successfully held the House, Senate and Presidency for at least four years running I think there's generally been some pretty extreme reasons why: in particular a 'rally-round-the-flag' phenomenon like a war (that people aren't sick of yet and feel good about) or an attack like 9/11 or maybe the death of a President. If something like that would have happened (not that I would want it to) then political trends suggest the Democrats would have done way better.

The other reason both houses and the Presidency would go to one party for a while is probably punishment. Post-Civil War (I have to assume the effects of this lasted a long time, based on what I'm seeing on Jonnyboy's graphs), post-Watergate, just after the Great Depression started.

Oddly, however, the economy and GDP are, by all accounts, better than they were. Unemployment is bad, but being stabilized and Obama's actively fighting foreclosures and predatory debt, credit or lending practices. They could be better, but it'd be foolish to say the administration or legislators ignored the problem or that there has been no work started on the path to recovery that seems to be at least somewhat successful.

Here's a question: If this election happened, say, in the days prior to the 24-hour news channel or before the news era we call "infotainment", would the results be different? Do you think the evolving news networks and online outlets, many of which have a left or right bias, and an increasing propensity to show very angry, often illogical but interesting protesters (of any political stripe) who represent a very small percent of the population at large, will significantly reduce the ability to hang onto power in the ways it seems like they used to be able to?

Also: Any thoughts about the Citizens United case's impact on this election? They say it was the highest funded midterm of all time. Here in Colorado there was an intense barrage of ads, literally making up the entirety of commercial breaks in prime time near the end. Now, we had the Buck vs Bennett race, which was predicted to be (and was) one of the tightest in the nation. Did you guys notice anything in terms of ads, or have any concerns on what is, in some ways, the undoing of campaign finance reform we saw with McCain-Feingold?

I've read multiple reports that the majority of likely voters, by approximately a 2-1 margin, believed that the GDP was going down and taxes had been raised in the past two years. Even the plurality of Democrats believe this. That right there tells you what went wrong.

The Democrats slacked-off and allowed the Republicans to dominate the media so heavily that they managed to convince the masses, even their would-be opponents, that up is down and black is white. The Republicans were given free pass to rewrite recent history.

As usual, the Democrats were hurt by having absolutely no chutzpah.
    Go to sleep, iguana.
