I know! I was just talking about him yesterday. He's great.

In seriousness, there has been some critical talk of all those fringe candidates creating a circus. Well, my opinion is that while probably all five of them aren't really electable, they deserve credit for actually mentioning some of these particular issues or analyzing any kind of policy at all. The two mainstream candidates, of course, spoke in platitudes and nothing else.

Ironically, the rent is "too high" in NYC because of rent control, which had the unintended consequence of reducing new construction in the city.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Rent controls depress the local economy but I still think NYC is a hot bed for business.

High end housing can always be profitable. Rent controls make it less profitable (or even unprofitable) to build lower income housing. I don't think they'll ever eliminate rent controls because, if they did, there would be a short term rent increase. Politicians aren't willing to do something that would be so unpopular, even though it would be beneficial in the long term (a larger supply years down the road).
