I think China pretty much distrusts the whole western world. Which is not surprising since they are a weird country to be acquiring power. The west is intimidated.

    BTW, U.S. foreign policy:

Man I hate the cut wrist smiley and you got it in your avatar.

I think that picture is a testament to US moderation, a hell of a lot of alternative hegemons would be posting pics of heaps of mutilated corpses and behaving proud of it.

Chinese response to 9/11? Hanged a lot of prominant political islamist prisoners.

Considering how China was embargoed for so many years during Mao's reign, where they were forced to default to the whims of the Soviet Union, do you wonder why they wouldn't trust the ringleader which was the U.S.?

I thought they eventually entered into an anti-soviet pact with the US?

    Thumbs down

The Vietnamese have been fighting China for more than a thousand years and so have much to teach us about China's foreign policy.

Vietnam is a small country right next door to a much bigger China, but Vietnam has maintained their independence by standing up to China's bullying.

And like any authoritarian state without liberal democracy, China's foreign policy is to bully where it can, and the antidote, as the Vietnamese teach us, is to stand up to the bully. The Chinese don't respect anyone who kowtows.

There was a major falling out between the two countries but this took decades to happen. I'm not talking about current (past four decades) history.

China has a long memory when it comes to foreign relations. Consider Japan and China.
