    Question Revoking the 14th Amendment

    I'm posting this just because I wanted to know how people on TypoC responded. What do you think? Should the 14th amendment be revoked?

    In a rush to appease the angry mobs, a gaggle of leading congressional Republicans has raised the idea of revoking the Constitution's apparent granting of citizenship upon birth in the United States. (The 14th Amendment declares "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.")

    wow.....

    and I thought Republicans were against a class based society? Thats at least the case that was made to me with regards to the stem cell bit - one population becoming organ feeders for another...

    If immigrants couldn't have their children become citizens, then what we've essentially become is Feudalistic and monarchistic/royalist... everything we sought to do away with.

    clearly, they CANT be serious....

    My response? A terrible idea. A step backwards. Won't help anybody.

    This kind of thing is more present all the time. The Republican party is a disaster. It's all powered by mindless zeal now, and it will do anything to appease its power source.

    I'm strongly opposed to repealing it, and believe our immigration laws are already too strict. I think people are arrogant and elitist to think we should decide who is "worthy" to enter this country. People should be able to freely move where they want to.

    Personally, I think the children should be allowed to stay. They didn't have any input in their parents jumping the border, especially if the child was born here.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm not against anyone coming into the country, I'd just rather you go through proper channels.

    Just my two cents, folks.
    Anything that you haven't fought for isn't going to be appreciated. It takes blood, sweat, and a large amount of tears before you appreciate what you have.

    I found the dillema interesting how Ron Paul put it. Do Illegal immegrants fall under this law compared to the legal ones.

    In my view the 14th Amendment represents what America is about better than any other Amendment (except the First). People have been coming to the US looking for new opportunity since the very beginning. To repeal the 14th Amendment is to repeal our national identity.
