Well improving Gods is kind of difficult...they're Gods already

Oh, I dunno. If there was a slapdown match between Siva and Hephaestos, for example, I'm pretty sure my money would be on the Indian. Hephaestos has that limp and all, you know, and Siva comes with a bow.

So there's gods and there's gods, if you know what I mean.

Personal beliefs aside, he is still a world leader, so I would extend the same courtesy to Mr. Pope that I would for, say, Mr. Putin or that reincarnated Dalai Lama thing/person/guy.

Head of a totally irrelevant state. It's bad enough that it's become standard to foot hefty bills for the visit of any head of state, when you think of it. This guy in particular is in charge of a place not even half a square mile which contains nothing of material importance.
    Go to sleep, iguana.

...aside from the allegiance of the entire Latin world plus big chunks of Europe, you mean?

    That makes something a state?

Should football have a miniscule state, too?

No, it's the fact that it's got a sovereign territory, a border, and a government that makes the Vatican a state.

It's the allegiance of the entire Latin world and big chunks of Europe that make the Vatican worth paying attention to.

    Head of state? Yes
    Important state? No

This isn't the criteria to judge him by, instead think of the hundreds of millions of followers he has at his disposal. You could pave over the Vatican and the papacy wouldn't lose a drop of influence.

That seems like a poor reason alone to care.

Which means it all amounts to some kind of cultural opinion. I suppose this is why someone who rejects the Pope might feel it a waste of money to pay for a visit.
