Default Unpaving the roads and severe cutbacks

Apparently some of the states in the US are so broke that they can't even afford to maintain the basic infrastructure, I've read reports of roads being "unpaved", Hawaii decreasing their school week to 4 days a week, law enforcement cutbacks, education cutbacks, and even "fire fighter blackouts". Is America slowly deteriorating?

I saw that on Rachel Maddow last night and it felt surreal. I am stunned and don't know what to say or think.

Same things happening here, the conservatives what the criminal justice system to cut two million out of their budget, they where saying that it could mean that prisons would have to close and they wouldnt be able to pay prison officers. That was leaked and they have announced their cuts in other sectors yet. I'm expecting to be out of work shortly if that's anything to go by too.

    Its pretty incredible.

Well, we need tax cuts, dammit. That seems obvious!

Why does the underclass work itself to a heart attack worrying about this stuff? The political class is intent on driving this country into the ground. Let it be. You have no power to change it, so I suggest instead of useless worrying you learn how to fend for yourself. Learn how to teach your own kids. Learn how to cook from cheap, raw ingredients. Live where you work. Start a little garden, no matter how small. Watch out for your own health as best you can.

A part of me hopes the Titanic sinks, and hard, so that we can shake this evil system from our shoulders and live sanely.

    Yes, and...
Hedge a part of your savings with the safety of gold against inflation. Get the fudge out of debt asap.
And perhaps, have your kids learn Chinese...might be important for the future

I dunno. I love the American Transcendentalists, but you've got to admit, Thoreau was a bit of a poseur...

To be honest independence and self-sufficiency are day dreams, we all sink or swim together and that's that.
