I'd rather see how they designed the questions. It would make a substantial difference if there was an option for None of the Above.

It's the militant ones I'm not fond of. It's almost as if they're waiting with the FFRF on speed dial to catch anyone with a Bible or a prayer at a place they deem should be religion free. They see a Bible on display and it becomes a fiery demon that needs to be excorcised right away. I think some people forget that we have historical documents that prove our government often set aside a day of prayer or thanksgiving to the God of the Bible. In other words, let people be. Let them worship as they please. The Founding Fathers often prayed before a meeting so why is it so taboo now? You don't have to agree, just allow people their few moments to pray or whatever. People are too offended by things, especially if they believe they don't exist.

Sorry for the spiel. I don't think all non believers are like that. I just have beef with those who want to eradicate religion period.

Well, I don't really care because no one in my life seems to hate me for being an atheist. As long as I have equal rights and freedom from religion, and as long as religious people don't approach me with the intent to "spread their message" or tell me I'm going to hell, whether and who they pray to is no concern of mine. That is, until they attempt to teach religion in science class. If you're going to reserve a place inside yourself for negativity and discrimination, I would think that makes you the unlikable one, but I guess it doesn't matter if you're part of the majority. My little brother was actually told by his friend that he is not allowed to be friends with him anymore because my brother doesn't believe in God. That is upsetting to me.

On the plus side, he's probably better of not being friends with people like that...

If every other group is judged and heard by it's loudest noise makers, it really shouldn't be surprising that it happens to atheists as well. And in the case of atheism, I have to admit, our loudest noises are often condescending fucks (Plus, you know, the non believing thing is obviously a sham and w're all secretly satanists angry at god desperately trying to intellectualize and justify our sinful ways).

Satan isn't the most catchy person who should be scapegoated regarding atheist condescension. Hasn't Fox news found one yet?

It is understandable that Americans dislike atheists because America was settled by religious believers. So atheists are not part of the American mainstream. Atheists are a minority who are seen as rejecting America itself.

By contrast, Oz was not settled by religious believers but was settled by the Scottish and English Enlightenment. And as a result Oz has recently elected an atheist Prime Minister who instituted a National Judicial Enquiry into Child Abuse in Religious Institutions.

Americans have and will resist any such enquiry into their own religious institutions, just as I have been banned on this site for even suggesting we become alert to child abuse on Typology Central.

The dislike of atheists is functional for Americans because it distracts attention from American religious institutions and offers an emotional outlet by scapegoating the atheists.

Have you tried spreading atheism to the Aborigines?

In my opinion, focusing on religious institutions is largely a smokescreen. There are other problems that are largely unacknowledged.
[Trump's] rhetoric is not an abuse of power. In the same way that it's also not against the law to do a backflip off of the roof of your house onto your concrete driveway. It's just mind-numbingly stupid and, to say the least, counterproductive. - Bush did 9-11

Child rearing practices are fundamental to the development of personality. And American religious institutions make it their business to engage in child rearing practices.

A large part of the power of religious institutions lies in their mass child rearing practices. And naturally American religious institutions use their power to avoid accountability.
