Smoking is not a solitary activity. It poisons the lungs of all those around whether they are babies or innocent bystanders.
I agree with this. But I am also somewhat sympathetic to smokers who want to quit but have been hooked by a product I can hardly believe it's legal to create and sell. I don't think they are all of low character or immature as your list implies. (Doesn't mean they should be able to smoke around others.)

Where I live is where a pretty big percentage of the world's tobacco is grown, processed, and marketed (R.J. Reynolds, American Tobacco, etc) and our smoking rates have always been higher than most other states and probably higher than most of the rest of the world.

there's a difference between agreeing that you disagree with a person's beleifs and thinking that they're a horrible person... too many people manage to blur that line

and nice skipping of the rest of the argument there... that's so typical!

And I thought it was my mother who made me gay, but to my surprise I find it was all those cigarettes I smoked.

I suppose some would consider me mentally ill, but I don't think I'm a lot crazier than your average normal person.

I was a teenage girl, but I quit that a long time ago.

    Never did smoke, though.

My mother, who started smoking as a teenage girl, taught me not to smoke. I was always a compliant child.

What I think about people that smoke is that it must be extremely hard to quit and I hope that they are able to some day if they want to.

What I tell my children about smoking is that I better never seem them doing it unless their clothes are on fire. I tell them that it's a very expensive habit and that pawn shops and plasma donation centers would be out of business without smokers.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

Any bets on how long it takes Victor to tie this in with Islam somehow?
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

    How can I resist?

Islam of course bans alcohol but does not ban smoking. So we find it quite common for muslims to smoke. It is not forbidden by the Koran so smoking is not haram.
