You have to remember that King George III was all about "What you can do for your country."

See I KNEW someone would come along and throw something like that up in refutation. I was honestly expecting to be called a fascist or something.

Better a monarchist than a fascist, I suppose.

    True!
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Like if you have mandatory civil service that emphasized helping those in need and protecting your friends and family but also bestowed inalienable gun rights, you'd probably have more of a communal feeling of protection rather than the way it works now where everyone is sort of perceived as a potential threat and the government is just a force of evil that must be fought at every turn.

You'd also remove the paranoia-fueled police state bullshit.
A country that defends its human rights with guns is barbaric and seen to be barbaric.

Did Australia surrender to the Japanese Empire?

Slightly inaccurate. Nationalism as a motivation for civil service didn't really start until the rise of Napoleon and the French Empire.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I HATE that JFK quotation, and the entire mindset behind it. And you can read some of the Federalist Papers (the ones Madison wrote, particularly) if you want some more in-depth reasoning about the ideals of the Founding Fathers for their nascent constitutional republic.
