All that's why my dad wants to move to Canada. It's too bad they don't take his kind.

I'm tempted to marry someone in Canada just for the health care.

My girlfriend isn't too keen on that idea though...

I made the mistake of getting diagnosed with clinical depression. I got lucky that my school funding had emergency care but that just ran out so I'm uninsured until 2014 when the ACA kicks in.

I don't expect healthcare to be free, I just want to live somewhere where it isn't considered taboo to provide everyone access no matter what.

I know a fair amount about the healthcare in Canada and other countries with UHC. And I'll take it over the USA's.

I think Japan or Germany's approach would be better for this country, though.

I think so too, I'm not against Health Insurance companies making money, but if they were regulated the way a utility is then even that would make things much better.

What's wrong with insurance companies making money? Insurance companies underwrite at a loss, and make it whole by investing their premiums.

they do everything in their power to get out of having to pay out while simultaneously raising rates without any real reason simply because they have a monopoly in the areas they operate.

If they were regulated the same way that a utility is they would have to justify every rate increase and couldn't arbitrarily kick people.

And they'd still make plenty of money.

They could easily lose at least a hundred times anything they'd save unlawfully denying claims, settling lawsuits. And the US is a very lawsuit-happy country. Michael Moore is an idiot.

Yes, insurance companies do ration healthcare, but they actually do it less (albeit less efficiently) than most European healthcare systems. The US has the highest rate of healthcare expenses per capita in the world, and has the most capital-intensive healthcare system, as well as the highest life expectancy (adjusting for fatal accidents) in the world, as a result.
