Based on the fact that in 4.54 billion years of earths existance, there have only been 5 known major extinction events, despite the fact that the event we are about to get in 2012 happens once every 25,625 years.
Why do we need external factors to destroy ourselves as a species? We have all the weapons we need. If 99% of the human race is wiped out, the fact that it's not "extinction" according to our definition is not much of a consolation.
OTOH, cut the 2012 crap already.

Interesting that there's still life after extinctions, as seen in the past. I believe not all 7 billion people on the planet are going to go extinct if something catastrophic happens...excluding any nuclear wars.
The worst case nuclear holocaust would be nothing compared to some natural events. Humanity does not yet have the potential to wipe itself out.
Armageddon is too big for the British to handle. Their main man James Bond does not usually fight climate change. But I have faith in the Americans. They would save the whole world just like in the movies.
