So, 82% of the population has been hiding from the other 18% - and this smaller portion is the majority, and this majority is the creator of our culture, its economic flaws, and general all-around ruin? Uhmm... Okay?

This video doesn't prove your statement.

also that there is a heavy streak of anti-intellectualism.
    Yeah, there sure is.

If christians acted as the bible commands them to then the best actors, scientists, writers etc. would be christian...
I don't think the video was saying that Atheism can instantly make people intelligent, but it seems like you're doing this with Christianity though. How scientific.

that's the way it was for a couple of millennia.

Hmm... But what if it does end well?
Then I suppose it will be a different sort of poetry, a preferable sort...
A sort I could become accustomed to...

I actually agree here with OMT.

    The OP is retarded.

    Of course capitalism would continue.

Human self-interest drives capitalism. And it ain't goin away.

    True.

Sadly, human self-interest drives communism, too, but with communism, a select few thrive, while the masses are vastly deprived.

That sounds eerily similar to captialism, too.

Yeah, it does, and it is.

Self-interest can lead to well, greed, abuse of power, and well, greed.

I understand that competition is not only natural, but can yield positive effects.

But, lucky us, cooperation is also natural amongst our species, so, in my perfect world, there would be a balance of healthy competition serving as a means to a a cooperative end.

See, I don't see these things as mutually exclusive.

Also, self-interest can coexist with human-interest.

I do believe in win-win situations, where compromises must be made in order for everyone to benefit an ultimate net gain.

Less moral, take a look a Sweden, mostly an atheistic country with lower crime rates compared the United States . In fact, most non-theistic countries have the lower crime rates then America. America is one of the most religious countries in the world, yet we have some of the highest crime rates compared to other less "religious" countries. The "bible belt" has the highest crime rates in the United States!

Really... deprived of what? In america you can have food, clothing and shelter and still be considered poor. That isn't the case in other countries.

Comparing crime rates is silly. There are too many variables. Differences in laws and likelihood of reporting make it difficult to draw any meaningful conclusions from crime rates of different countries.

Even if we could draw some conclusions in order to prove your point valid you would also need to show that Sweden has fewer infringements on the personal liberties of its citizens than the US.

Also, america may be religious, but I don't think its very christian... particularly in the "bible belt."
