It's very true. Like sibling privileges.

"At home, me against my brother. In the house, me and my brother against our cousins. In the village, me, my brother, my cousins against our neighbors. Outside, me, my brother, my cousins and our neighbors against the whole world."

though, this is just human nature, I think. The difference is that the US is more visible than your little village, so more people will have opinions that those within don't want them to have.

I live in America, and was born in America, but I do not call myself American - nor do I wish to be called this by others. I take no pride in others, I take no pride in this peice of land, or in our form of government. To have pride in these things is to give away your own.

I should not be defined by my place of birth, by others, and their ideas of how this or that should or should not be. I am somehow debted, and destined to be a part of, a system that has forced itself upon me - I have expectations forced upon me that I have no intention of meeting.

I am nothing. You do cannot define me. Fuck the majority.

America is rotting in a pile of it's own worthless rumination, and it will continue to do so long after I've passed on. Fuck amuuricahhh - land of the free[so long as you do what we tell you].

    This will not end well...
But it will at least be poetic, I suppose...

Hmm... But what if it does end well?
Then I suppose it will be a different sort of poetry, a preferable sort...
A sort I could become accustomed to...

I believe there is a bumper sticker with a slogan that is something to the effect of "If you don't like it, then get the hell out!" This is printed with the flag as a background.

I hate the incestuous relationship between big business and our regulatory agencies.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I wasn't born in America but I am a citizen and I do see myself as American. This is my country and if it is going down, I am going down with it.

I hate America for producing people who are blind to this country's faults, call critics unpatriotic, look down on immigrants even though this country is made up of all immigrants, ruin the environment like no one's business, goes ape-shit over the word socialism, ruined Iraq without so much as an apology, let George W. Bush off the hook for illegal warfare while still shaking their heads at Clinton's blow job, and views bulldozing corporations and capitalism in general as the new religion that would redeem us all and sustain humanity forever. Oh and being unable to create universal health care despite being one of the most modern/advanced/humanitarian/wealthy etc.

Having said that, no country is perfect and every country is not without severe issues and a messed up history, not just America. I wouldn't trade my citizenship for any other country, no matter how exotic. I just especially hate people who are so blindly nationalistic that they avoid all critical issues and just spit patriotism in your face as if it's some kind of sound argument.

Oh, I also hate that white people (second generation) see themselves automatically as American while other races even when they are seventh generation are ___-American...wtf.
