Parts of the United States (when they were still British colonies) were also used as a penal colony. Take a look at "Moll Flanders," by Daniel DeFoe.

I'm a little teapot, short and stout. Here is my handle and here is my spout. Every time I steam up, I give a shout. Just tip me over and pour me out.

Ah, whatever invited you to create an "I Hate America" thread...

...and now here it is. Very good.

I think a lot of time people unnecessarily get up in arms about the slightest criticism of American government and call that criticism "hatred" even though discussion, debate, and critique of a wiggity wack system of government (that is, a government that has become increasing corrupt and opportunistic) are what makes good citizens. We want political leaders who are morally conscious, logical, and innovative so that we can find ways to not only improve our nation's prosperity but also our quality of life as citizens. I don't know - I just don't see this as an "F U AMERICA!" thread.

*I meant this generally. I can't tell if Oberon was advocating that idea or not.

This is an eloquently stated "F U AMERICA" thread. His "charges" are the same charges with which every European colonial power has attacked us over the past 200 years.

    Anti-Americanism has a long history.

Political scientist Josef Joffe suggests five classic aspects of the phenomenon: reducing Americans to stereotypes, believing the United States to have an irremediably evil nature, ascribing to the U.S. establishment a vast conspiratorial power aimed at utterly dominating the globe, holding the United States responsible for all the evils in the world, and seeking to limit the influence of the United States by destroying it or by cutting oneself and one's society off from its polluting products and practices.

I think we should all pretend that we think he is saying that the US is awesome.
