There's a reason why economists and other specialists disagree with each other at roughly the same rate as the general population - we see what we wish to see.

I have to agree, saying that "the only reason you disagree is because you are ignorant" is... well... like me saying that the only reason libertarians even believe in their beliefs is because they aren't rational and are incapable of making a rational choice. Actually, that'd be more accurate. Political choice is linked more to personality than to degree of knowledge or education.

I'll let it be since Oberon probably took the brunt of my frustration from noturne's comments. Had it stood alone, I may not have been offended by what Oberon said.
Ah. Gotcha -- forgive me for missing that line, there was a LOT to skim through... He did offer a LOT of detail about other aspects of the question. Far more detail that I actually know, myself.

But really, I saw things on both sides that could be termed "snippy." (And other threads where the offense has been much worse than here.) So it would be nice if the discussion could continue, just on a less volatile level from everyone.

I did pick up that Nocturne's comment probably started the fire, and Obe got caught in the crossfire that he stepped into.

To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft

True, it seems I let myself get goaded into derailing this thread. If you would like to split it off from post #64 on, then I would be more than happy to continue discussing the topic minus the volatility.

For my part, I didn't mean to demean you. I'm sorry to have made you so angry. With regard to being "ignorant of history," I'm as bad as anyone... I only know enough to have some idea of how much I don't know.

    Please accept my apology.

You did not, not in the least.

Now then... who wants a beer?

EDIT: No, no! I'm NOT going to derail this thread. Please return to your usual thread programming!
