Default National ID Card in Immigration Reform Bill

National ID Card Included In Democratic Immigration Bill - Yahoo! News

Democrats pushed forward on an immigration overhaul on Thursday evening with no Republican support, as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) continues to hold out, arguing that the divisive issue will make progress on climate change legislation impossible.

The Senate is also in the middle of debating Wall Street reform, which is expected to take up the next few weeks of floor time. Reid, however, said that the chamber would be able to handle the task. "We can do more than one thing at once," he said.

The Democratic proposal includes increased money for border patrol and drug war agents, equipment, helicopters and unmanned drones. It would create a national ID -- which is dubbed a "biometric social security card." Though Democrats insist that it is not an ID card and can only be used for employment purposes.
Conspiracy theory, or new reality? What exactly does "biometric social security card" mean? Will it be tagged with your fingerprints and/or DNA?

Why aren't we talking about this?

I doubt it could be taken too far without the ACLU coming in and pointing out that it was invading privacy- things like medical history, criminal history, driving history and credit history can't be given without consent

of course that doesn't mean that you don't have to consent to them to get a job... well, not the medical at least!

I doubt that it would really be a more complex system in the end than the new state ID cards and drivers licenses in my state... we're not even allowed to vote if we don't have one, unless it's by mail

we have an incredibly stupid governor (and I think I could take him in a fight )

That depends upon how far into the future is "the end."

Social Security numbers, originally, were meant simply for the social security system. Now, they're being used for everything.

well, I'm not living forever... and I don't intend to reproduce, so if we're talking 70 years or so I'll be either ancient and retired or dead

70 years? You won't recognize your country, if you live that long.

For me, it's ironic, because I would opt out of Social Security IN A HEARTBEAT if I could.

I'm actually really curious: what's the big fuss over an ID card? It doesn't seem like a big deal to me, unless you're required to carry it at all times or something. Not much different than a passport or drivers licence...no?

Same here...but we don't have that option, unfortunately.
