It kind of amuses me that our government that speaks with forked tongue. Failed to correctly assess the situation and respond from the get go.

Business and government leadership is in a sad state of affairs. How they all got to be so collectively incompetant and stupid I'll never know.

Business and government, because none of us...are as dumb as all of them.

Robert Menendez Pushes Bill Raising BP's Oil Spill Liability To $10 Billion

An article I was reading earlier on it.

Honestly, I don't feel bad at all for BP. They've had a similar crisis before and apparently are not learning from their mistakes the first time around.

When you make $6 billion a year, it's because you're in a business with potentially high costs as well. So when those costs come up, everyone wants to cry and bitch. Take a safe, small job and work for someone if you aren't willing to shell the money when your big business backfires on you every so often.

    Profit Margins

    BP: 5.8%
    Apple: 21.1%
    Microsoft: 29.0%

BP provides a resource critical to the survival of modern civilization, and yet has a smaller profit margin than the makers of the iPad.

I feel bad for them, but my feelings won't help them fix the leak.

Mechanical failures are not unheard of in any industry. Ever have a car malfunction on you?

Offshore platforms are huge, but large machinery is vulnerable to the same forces that cause home appliances to malfunction.

The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Is this an INTJs attempt at humor?

I read they failed to install a redundancy valve which in a case like that would have prevented the spilling. The valve costs around 600 k and that the author assumed was the reason they didnt take it.

Following my education as a mechanical engineer, who had to attend to courses about operational security 60 % of the time of my university courses, I find this reckless.

A better profit margin does not really make up for that kind of attitude.
