Hope you weren't investing in banks...I'm up like 17% this year myself. Got lucky on a couple, though I essentially just copied most of dad's portfolio. He's doing better than I am too, which he doesn't let me forget on a daily basis.
I was up like 12% on Goldman (!) until today! Oh the pain is unbearable! I knew something like this would happen... damn you greed!

The fraud is pretty widespread. What many of these companies did was create a shell company and transfer their bad loans over so their financial reports would still look good.

If you or I did this, we would spend many years in prison. We'll be lucky if any of these guys spend any time in prison.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."
