    Damn religious commies!
My personal opinion is to keep religion as far as possible from government, I mean far.

"There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. There was a Levite, a native of Cyprus, Joseph, to whom the apostles gave the name Barnabas (which means 'son of encouragement'). He sold a field that belonged to him, then brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. " -Acts 4:34-37

    Damn athiest communists!
Oh my God, every time someone wants to call Jesus or the early Christians communists, it makes me want to punch everything. It's just not true.

Also major corporations fund both Democrats and Republicans. The only difference between a republican candidate and a Democratic candidate is their area of focus. Republicans focus on foreign policy and democrats will focus on the economy. In the end we are screwed over every single time.
Funny how those are the two respective areas those parties actually do the most damage.

Jesus is one thing... the early Christians were at least socialist.

They certainly would have frowned on the culture of greed that pervades our society, where capitalism is celebrated as some sort of moral beacon.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

What I totally don't understand is how someone can be against raising taxes AND cutting entitlements AND cutting military expenditures AND against a deficit. To fix a deficit, you need to either raise taxes or cut spending, and our largest expenditures are entitlements and military, so...

They want entitlement expenditures cut, just not their entitlements.

No, they weren't. Do you know what the "socialism" actually means?

Wordnetweb: "a political theory advocating state ownership of industry; an economic system based on state ownership of capital"

Socialism wiki: "various theories of economic organization which advocate either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources"

So, how do you get from a religious sect that often lived together and worked together communally but avoided active political participation (until the era of Constantine) into "advocating state ownership of industry" or "public or direct worker ownership of the means of production?" Was my fraternity house a bunch of socialists because we had house funds that paid for utilities, food, alcohol, trips to museums, etc.? Are Catholic monastic orders communist cells because they are non-profits and everyone works and shares things? That is completely ridiculous.

+1. Everyone wants lower taxes and spending until THEIR favorite government program is on the chopping block.

And this is why I think this whole thing is very silly. It's not greed, greed isn't the problem. It's a distinct lack of empathy.
