It was Napoleon Bonaparte who said that...
And as usual, it is quite true.

Mightier than the tread of marching armies is the power of an idea whose time has come

I would love to see that spending cut by a factor of 5. We have to at least stay ahead of the Chinese.

It makes me wonder, if the US were to drastically lower that number, would you see other nations' expenditures rise? I think that's a legitimate question.

The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

    Yeap.

However I simply can't believe that they can't spend some of that money on something more useful.

On the other hand almost everything they spend in the end comes back to them so it is not really spending. (if I got it right)

Well my bet would be they they would rise. Since there will no longer be a status quo.

However if you take only 10% of that money and investit it in technology and science the country would truly become superior to everyone else on the long run.

I don't doubt that and I would LOVE to see the US go that route. But we have so many people in this country that freak out any time military spending is cut. Maybe once the baby boomers are gone...if we still have a nation left.

The thing is that my country's defense budget is not even a 1 billion $.
So idea that someone is spending hundreds of billions on this is a little bit wierd.

Most people in this country do not know how much is spent. Much less how many times more than our next closest competator.

Our media never really makes much of a point to tell them. Just as even to this day there are still lots of folks out there who believe Iraq had something to do with 911. Or, mistakenly believe WMD were found.
