    Default USA: Teen Bullying Suicide

You can just search on "Phoebe Prince", or read:

Nine students charged in death - BostonHerald.com

Nine teens charged (including statutory rape) in a case where they systematically harrassed the Irish teenaged immigrant until she hung herself. School officials knew of this, but did little to stop it. Who is to blame? How much blame?

    Pretty disgusting stuff.

It's curious to speculate why school officials aren't being formally charged at the moment. Hopefully, the compilation of incriminating data is ongoing, and criminal charges are pending. Seems unfair to exclude the offending environment from any liability.

Since they are minors, I think their parents should be charged as well.

Afteral, those kids had to learn that type of behavior somewhere.

9 charged, only are 3 minors.

An 18-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy are each charged with statutory rape.

The 17-year-old is also charged with violation of civil rights causing bodily harm and criminal harassment.

A 17-year-old girl is charged with violating civil rights causing bodily harm and criminal harassment.

Three 16-year-olds are charged with violating civil rights causing bodily harm and two of the 16-year-olds have also been charged with stalking.

As well, three minors have been charged with violating civil rights causing bodily harm and criminal harassment. One of the minors has also been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, in this case, a bottle, can or similar beverage container.

I find it strange no one from the school has been charged either. Perhaps those are pending.

Maybe there isn't any crime they can actually be charged with. It seems that the most states have laws that are woefully inadequate for addressing this issue. There was an incident of bullying that led to suicide near where I grew up in Missouri and nothing really happened there, either.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Yeah, maybe somewhere other than their parents.

I disagree with pressing charges against the parents. Someone doing wrong, even a minor, is not necessarily an indication that the parents are likely to do the same thing or are in some way conditioning the child to behave like that.

Peers are equal if not greater conditioners than parents, and inpersonal information outlets like the mediar also condition people to an extent. Then you have asocial experiences which the parents my not have been able to do anything about (or even know about), and there's the fact that people can really be physiologically predisposed to certain kinds of behavioral maladaption.

Adding all of that up, it would be quite unwarranted to put so much blame on the parents.
    Go to sleep, iguana.

It was sad to read the part where students said it was "Common Knowledge."

I see it as a systemic problem. Why did this happen in the first place? It starts with the school leaders, whom get elected by a board of bureaucracy that's broken/falling apart. So the problem just festers and gets worse and worse, until someone jumps in and changes the whole system.

It's sad to see mal-intent people get away with harmful acts. I've seen teachers go along with bully students, and gang up on innocent bystanders, just because they want to play favoritism, and it slides when people sheep at things because their logic is to 'accept it' just because 'that's just the way it is.'

I believe Ohio just passed a law that school teachers have to report bullies now, just like having to report suspected sex abuse. Interesting, that.
