Default French fort unearthed in Vermont

    Interesting:
Key fort in battle for North America unearthed
By Randy Boswell, Canwest News ServiceMarch 23, 2010

U.S. archeologists have unearthed traces of a long-lost, 18th-century fort that was once the key southern gateway to Canada and, for a time, New France's main bastion against British invaders as the two European empires struggled for control of North America.

The 279-year-old structure, built at a strategically important narrowing of Lake Champlain in present-day Vermont, was ordered by King Louis XV even though its construction violated terms of the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht and set the stage for future battles that would eventually lead to the British conquest of Canada.

Ah yes, that area. North America was quite the warzone back in those days, wasn't it.

Yes, it was often disputed territory between France and Britain and was a major scene of conflict during the French and Indian War/Seven Years War.

That wasn't the only place stuff happened though, in North America, that is. Makes me want to go back and read up on it again since my grade 7-8 history is getting a little foggy.

Well of course not. The French and Indian War itself was just the North American theatre of the Seven Years War. There was fighting in Europe(primarily against Prussia) and also Asia - particularly India.
