Remember when I mentioned that there were less intrusive and more sustainable ways to gradually expand health coverage without piling massive debt and obscene taxes on future generations? NOT going that route is also an opportunity cost.

As for Cuba specifically, I've no doubt they use some very unpleasant means to keep cost down, which the degree of control they have over their citizen's lives facilitates; that's also an opportunity costs.

We've got people beating down the doors to come here and work as doctors. Gazillions. Whole immigration law firms devoted to doing their H1B visas and working overtime. We can have as many doctors as we want, as long as we're willing to import them. We do that already in rural areas. So the doctors are going to have to get over themselves.

And Cuba remains an occupied country.

A small island with part of it occupied by a powerful and rich neighbour.

I knew mentioning Cuba would be possibly contentious.

It is both incorrect and unfair though to imply that any country with a non-profit health plan is "socialist" - which is tantamount to implying that these countries are just another step closer to communism.

Without being able to look around the world and objectively evaluate what works and doesn't work, no matter the political ideologies of the country examined, how can the health care crisis possibly be solved to both accommodate the needs of free enterprise and facilitate the health care of the most vulnerable in our society?

Increasing the supply of doctors and NPs is an approach the AMA and the Fed Gov't have no desire to pursue in a meaningful way, for obvious reasons...

But these people are crooks. It's not like they're being mischaracterized. Those responsible for the accounting fraud at these banks should be sent to prison, but nothing is happening.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."
