How the hell do you only get 7 years for raping two prostitutes at knifepoint?

Anyways, bummer of a story. Tons of people out there preying on the weak and desperate.

I realize this girl was likely lonely and insecure, being rejected by her peers, but I wonder if any adults in her life actually took the time to teach her about the fucked up motives of others.. I know some terribly naive people even in my own age bracket. They want to think the best of strangers, and often their desire for some sort of acceptance or affection blurs their scope of reality, and they're often taken advantage of.

It's not a matter of learning about potential dangers and thus living in fear and never doing anything, or meeting anyone, but learning how to be more aware of patterns, within the self, and behaviors of others, to keep a sense of proportion about situations.. like this one.

I feel for her family, and for the girl, whose life was cut short by some other fucked up person.
Sadly, this seems like it could have been preventable, looking at the possible factors and dimensions of everyone involved.

Hopefully this will raise more awareness, to some extent at least, to any lonesome, naive people who are waiting for just anyone to reach out to them.

Yeah, and most criminals only serve a fraction of their sentence due to overcrowding. (In America at least.)

Makes you wonder if any of the people who ever went to a TypoC meetup really made it out alive. I bet "they" are all the same guy now, logging into their accounts to maintain the fiction of their survival after having tortured their passwords out of them.

Vigilance is a much better approach -- discriminating risk-assessment, versus overt suspicion of all contacts. The latter seems to sacrifice too much freedom and potential connection for me.

But it doesn't really change the fact that she seemed particular vulnerable, which makes this guy a scum preying off the most helpless people he could find.

I found Gavin de Becker's books ("The Gift of Fear," et al) useful for intuitive/pattern-based risk assessment and practical fear management in regards to physical danger from predators.
