I haven't found that to be so. If anything, public schools stunted my social skills for several years.

This seems to be a common concern among Introverted people:
"Most high schools are set up to please extroverts, who are the majority of the population 3:1. Introverts may find a typical day overcrowded, over stimulating, noisy, oppressive and stressful. The lunch room seems to be a particularly awful experience. Introverted teens suffer from an almost total lack of privacy as well...

...Introverted teens find little value in extraneous socializing. Homeroom, clubs, dances, prom committees and most of all the dreaded lunchroom are annoying and exhausting to introverts. When they get home, the favored activity is reading or other quiet pursuits...

So again I'm not convinced by the socialization thesis.

I am not an introvert... being at home for too long drives me up the walls

Introverts may find a typical work day, or just life in general to be "overcrowded, over stimulating, noisy, oppressive and stressful" as well. So why not get prepared for it?

I'm a fairly pronounced introvert, and got more social during school. I think it matters mostly if the introvert gets rejected by their peers or not. Not all of them do.

I'm not an introvert but school didn't teach me any wonderful skills other than how to try to fit in or by senior year not really hang out with anyone other than my sister (same age) because I was sick of everyone else.

I definitely didn't need those social skillz.

College was a blast and a half though.
