There's nothing that could have been done beforehand--it would've needed the support of the masses, which were too busy overconsuming to notice a problem.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The real problem behind the system is our ridiculous credit system.

People familiar with the Austrian School of economics knew this would happen and were ignored, and are telling people things will get worse and are still being ignored.

Youtube Peter Schiff, Ron Paul, go to LewRockwell.com and so on.

I'm amazed that anybody didn't see it coming. I guess maybe the powers that be just don't know people irl that have been down-sized multiple times and have maxed out their credit cards just trying to keep the mortgage paid, the utilities on, and food on the table. It was a house of cards just waiting for a card to be pulled out.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

Or rather the complete lack of awareness we have of how our decisions affect not only ourselves and our own personal financial state but also that of our country's. Everyone is making the same careless decisions in terms of helping the economy because their choices are essentially selfish. I'm hearing a lot of the same thing: This country has allowed me the privilege to spend however much money I want to spend; therefore, I can do whatever I want. I don't care.

Economically, we have to learn as citizens of a nation how to balance what's good for ourselves and what's good for our country so that our economy can prosper as a result. That's difficult to acheive sometimes when we don't even understand that in order to have a good economy we need a lot of participation, and cooperation, from the people.

Same, I don't understand what else was expected.

There was too much intermingling between high-level federal public servants and high-level bankers. That's the core of the issue; why would you want to regulate yourself?

Fair enough, but when I say the credit system, I also mean how people use (and even abuse) the system, since a how a system is used has a large part in what kind of system it is.
