Now there's an example for you... is anti-Irish bias racism?

Last I checked, Irish natives were Caucasians... yet there certainly has been anti-Irish bigotry in the past. I don't know if it still exists or not, having never personally encountered it.

Makes me want to sit down with a big bottle of whisky and ponder.

The Irish(along with Italians, Poles, and other immigrants from southern and eastern Europe) were commonly referred to by the infamous n-word.

I think any time there's a minority population being discriminated against by a privileged class, you've got racism. (I just heard that in the AOL guy's voice.)

No, but calling them a "subspecies" indicates belief in a supposed genetic link between supposedly abhorrent behavoir and ethnicity.

I think a tendency of men to throw acid in the faces of women who scorned them is rather a mark of an inferior culture.

Yes, there are cultures that do that, and cultures that don't, and the ones that don't are better. It's a value judgment, yes. Sue me.

True! And I believe there are many who are exploiting this to cover up their own abuses of power by having everyone too busy blaming each other for "discrimination" or "reverse discrimination" to see who's really screwing them!

Oh it exists, even here in Northern Ireland/Ulster.

Its part of the reason for the Ulster Scots identity to exist at all, even with the prefix of "Scots" being labelled Irish is anathema to many, in the rest of the world the plantation society scots protestants who intermarried and joined the disaporia would probably be Scots-Irish but not here, not for a lot of people.

Well, yeah- otherwise it'd be some other -ism I guess. Prop8 isn't exactly racist (is it? I don't know, maybe there is a racial aspect to it I don't know about). Racial or ethnic- the lines are blurry. I'm of the opinion that race is poorly defined and might not even really exist anyway. But in any case, people from different parts of the world tend to share different physical traits like melanin levels and whatnot, and then there's the added layer of language/accent/culture that isn't exactly racial but IMO still contributes to racism.

I'm not super educated about all this- I'm just trying to muddle through and do the right thing.
