Default Who knew fox fur was such a hot topic?

:rolli: I had to roll my eyes at this, but I'm posting it so ya'll can suffer too

Animal rights group criticizes skater for fox fur on costume.

    The skater:

She did what I asked her to. It wasnt her choice to make me a costume with fur, Weir said. At least directly come to me and yell at me. Dont attack my peeps.

Weir said he understands the groups objections, but he doesnt share their point of view.

Besides, hes not the only skater wearing animal skin products.

Every skater is wearing skates made out of cow, Weir said. Maybe Im wearing a cute little fox while everyone else is wearing cow, but were all still wearing animals.
    The animal rights people:

Hes a role model for a lot of people, including other skaters, said Priscilla Feral, president of Friends of Animals. When he makes fun of the suffering of animals that are consumed for this frivolous fashion industry and whose lives are sacrificed so he can wear little tufts of fur on his outfit, thats fair game for comment.
I definitely agree with the guy. How do people focus so hard on foxes when they're wearing other animals and nothing has been done about it?

I don't see Friends of Animals writing to farmers telling them to go back to the way crops used to be harvested because thousands and thousands of insects, spiders, snakes, and field animals are killed in cultivation, and I don't see a bunch of other skaters getting letters saying to switch their skates.. but these "activists" focus on one tiny, insignificant detail and tear it apart so absolutely.

How can people with such a narrow mindset hold their heads so high?

I wouldn't say fox fur is a hot topic... I'll bet it's pretty warm though.

Because if animal rights groups have shown us anything, it's that only cute animals have rights.

I very definitely figure that with this kind of "activism" there's a real typological correlation.

I suppose this is what bothers me the most. I know people are inherently going to be hypocritical.. but shouldn't most people still make an effort to not go down that road?

Its like someone going "Oh, well I did a bad thing when I was 16.. Eff it. Let's burn down this church too." There are subjects I really can't hold my head high in pride about because I'm so hypocritical and conflicted on them that I'm just a mess when the topic arises. But, I don't go around toting this as if I have room to talk on the subject either.

    Could you elaborate?

I dunno, I kinda side with the animal activists (though not necessarily agree with their methods). Cows get specifically bred as food. Foxes aren't usually eaten. It would be wasteful not to use the skin of the animals killed for food, but it does seem pointless to me to kill an animal purely for its fur as a fashion accessory. That's not a primary need, and doesn't balance out imo. For instance, I'm personally against hunting, at least when done by amateurs who make the animals suffer needlessly and where the point is 'sheer fun' as, once again, 'sheer fun' doesn't outweigh an animal's pain and life, I think.

I agree that pesticides that kill other wild life and makes it suffer are up there with foxhunting, but that, again, has at least somewhat of a reason to it (though I don't necessarily agree with it), which is a primary reason= food or income. It doesn't make up for it, but it does somewhat balance it out more, I feel.

And yeah, I know, I'm going to get heat for this
