Fair enough, I just want people to realize that opponents of McCain/Feingold are not corporate tools and that there are (most likely, IMO) unintended, counter-productive consequences to that and similar forms of campaign finance "reform." I'm not opposed to all such regulations (there are always balancing acts between different democratic/liberty goals, the details of which will vary according to local conditions and priorities), but the types of restrictions suggested are just horrible to me, both as a matter of principle (concerning political commercials by private organizations) and in terms of practical consequences (concerning private organizations and political contributions).

I'm okay with the second option (though I think somewhat larger contribution limits for organizations would be appropriate, in recognition that such contributions represent the aggregate contribution of many people, concentrated upon a specific issue-area) so long as private organizations are free to operate in other ways. The limits placed on the political activities of private organizations has always been my biggest beef with McCain/Feingold.

I wonder how long it will be until we have Coca-Cola running for the Senate.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Will his past drug issues come up in the campaign? I know it turned out OK for Obama, but damn, the candidate was soaked in cocaine back in the day.

Privatizing the electoral process should take care of that.

I wonder not when we'll have Coca-Cola running for Senate, but when we'll hear "I yield the floor to the Senator from Coca-Cola." Although I suppose they aren't all that different, come to think of it.

Yeah, but I heard Time Warner was going up against him, and you know, in Georgia, they care about their politicians' squeaky-clean image.

...OK, I can't even keep a straight face on that one.

Time Warner is #1 on my list of companies I am going to try to intern with during grad school.
