Generals always want more troop numbers, whether it's right or wrong
This is why we need politicians making our decisions, not our generals.

I'm saying we shouldn't have gone in, in the first place.

If we hadn't, the entire world would have been ready to go for us, once we eventually decided to do so.

Then, we would of had the troop strength we needed from the beginning.
You don't think going into Afghanistan was a good idea?

    We should have waited.

We should have been slow and deliberative in our decision to go in.

That way, the rest of the world would have known how prudent we were in making the decision.

They would shortly thereafter decide to back us up.

But they're in Pakistan. And starting to enter Somalia and Yemen now. It would be much wiser to focus on that foremost.

I disagree strongly. In scenarios like this, the more troops the better. See my posts in the other Afghanistan threads on why large troop commitment is essential.

There was no ongoing threat to our soil.

    No immediate threat that is.

We should have secured our borders first, then gotten some offensive action in order.

Well we should definitely pay attention to more than just Afghanistan and stop any terrorist organizational spreading. But the past and the present indicate that Afghanistan still needs to be a priority in denying Al Qaeda safe haven for the future. We need to be more proactive than reactive to the terrorists.

We should have gotten our house in order before we went and cast stones at someone elses.

What is a bigger threat, having a porous southern border through which violent cartels traffic all manner of contraband, or a bunch of religious nuts half way around the world.

You know we didn't just jump in immediately. We told the Taliban to give up their Al Qaeda connection and they refused. Then we invaded. Any country that didn't join after that wasn't going to join ever, unless they themselves were attacked.
