The majority of gun deaths in the United States are suicides. 16,000 or so per year recently. The number of defensive gun uses (displaying one, firing a warning, or shooting an assailant) is @1.5 million per year.

Well your right as far as the 2nd amendment. It other areas the U.S. Constitution has worked fine as a "living document" supported by starie decisis. Until the court stops excluding the 2nd amendment from selective incorporation to be applicable to the states then it is outdated.
Times have changed. The second amendment does not seem to be able to achieve the writers of the constitutions had in mind for it.
