    Default Defining social problems?

Once defined the existence of a social problem does not necesarily mean that a state or tax funded response is warranted but how would you define a social problem itself?

Would you make reference to sociology, culture or psychology?

The generic explanation is that a social problem is an objective condition accomponied by a subjective concern, as societal trend.

An interesting element to this is that the objective condition can be pretty much inconsequential but it will still be a social problem if there's enough concern about it. A good example would be gay marriage.

That definition, of course, is a neutral definition. It is one that does not take a stance on what is good or bad, be more a less says that social conflict defines a problem.

If you were to take a more opinionated approach to defining a social problem, though, it would still include psychology, sociology, and culture at the same time.

Psychology is the thought of the individual. Multiply that into a large portion of society and it becomes sociology. The particular thoughts are being multiplied are largely going to be framed by the cultural of the society in quiestion. So you see it's all three.

I'd consider that it's overlapping between those disciplines, I'm not sure that I agree with that definition though, it appears pretty capricious.

It intentionally allows room for caprice.
