Incidents involving a firearm represented 9% of the 4.7 million violent crimes of rape and sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated and simple assault in 2005.

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) in 2005, 477,040 victims of violent crimes stated that they faced an offender with a firearm.

Not sure what you expect out of me. You want to challenge me to a statistics duel? There are limitations on that. I already mentioned to Magic P that gun ownership statistics don't take into account how many times violence was averted by a mere presence of the gun on a potential victim, without gun being discharged.

D.C. is also as weird of a city that has ever existed in the United States, with no middle class historically to practically speak of. It has always been wealthy politicians/officials/ambassadors on the one end, and poor blacks on the other (D.C. was the first majority-black city in the US, and has remained one of the largest to this day). The US bureaucracy didn't expand (along with its jobs) until after WWII, and then, the middle-class government workers tended to live in the Virginia and Maryland suburbs. Consequentially, you had your gated-off enclave in the Northwest holding the politicos and ambassadors, while you had pathetic services in the rest of the city.

D.C. is a sociological anomaly in the history of this country. While convenient to point to its gun laws and high crime, it may not apply for the rest of the US.

In that case, we should have "poor blacks control", instead of gun control.

Well clearly they are not doing their job effectively. Maybe they should stop up their efforts.

I said in another thread that statistics will not help this debate.

No study or statistics have successfully isolated the variables. They have failed to show whether gun control reduces, increases or has no effect on violent crime levels, or whether the effect varies depending on other variables.

The variables vary too much. Man I love that word.

Yeah, I concur with that opinion.

And when there is no clear indication of whether something harms or benefits the society, I yield on the side of personal rights and freedoms.
