    Default Pearl Harbor Rememberance Day.

What are some of the events in history you wished never took place, for whatever reason?

The Bolshevik Revolution. Communism was so so so bad.

We can't change history, so why bother?

Every horrible event in history has a purpose, somehow.

For instance, if the Holocaust didn't happen and thus discredited fascistic ideologies, I think we would still have a few would-be Hitler amongst us, but now equiped with atom-bombs.

And if the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings didn't happen, then I'm not sure most leaders of the world could have truly understood what the "guaranteed mutual annihilation syndrome" meant, unless they directly experimented it. Chances are that the "Cold war" would have never happened, or would have quickly escalated into a real atomic war.

    ---

But just for the sake of this game, I'd say the most tragic events of History are the advent of Christianity (and its early centuries of intolerance and obscurantism = the Dark Ages), and Hegel.

Eh, Communism may have been bad but the Bolshevik Revolution was vital for toppling a corrupt government that did not have the best interests of the Russian people at heart and catered to the autocratic elite of society. Communism began to go bad when Stalin was in power.

I just went to my great aunt's funeral. I didn't realize that her and my great uncle's engagement party and newspaper announcement were on pearl harbor day. How crazy. I couldn't ever remember what day Pearl Harbor was, but I think I will remember now.

Leninism was terrible long before Stalinism; anyway, Communism is just plain bad, in that it has been a net detriment to mankind and any good accomplished in its name could have been accomplished through other social/political philosophies without the same side-effects.
