The partisans use fear of "the other" to stoke their support, its not strictly a left or right wing deal.

They both deal in catastrophising too, predicting doom next tuesday, while the left expects the authorities, even if its an alternative authority, will look after them the right panics that the authorities will have robbed them of the means to look after themselves in the event.

As far as it goes I've always liked some of the preparedness or personal responsibility perspective of the right since its more realistic and objectively correct, I've always marvelled at the left wing's continual talking up of crisis, collapse, irretreviably loss of control in the economy, society, state its not fearless, it is reckless.
