Fear is the tool of politicians, not one party specifically.
It's a little more complex than that. Most fear isn't propagated by politicians themselves, but political and media interests and think tanks. By the time a politician says something, it's already been thought of and promoted by other groups.

"The greatest trick the Devil ever played was convincing the world he didn't exist."

Politicians have as much power, and act just as selfishly as everyone suspects.

Within the US all decisions flow from politicians.

They may be in bed with corporate interests.

But at the end of the day, their own reelection is all they're seeking.

Just because other parties can influence politicians does not mean that those parties are more influential than the politicians themselves.

They're almost never the ones coming up with the agenda/policy/ideas. Think of them as the spokespeople.

They are spokes people only if they choose to be.

Just because they are spouting off on TV about how much they support the party, does not mean that they don't have their own private (personal) political agenda. If they didn't have a personal political agenda, it wouldnt be worth the bullshit to become a politician.

The general public doesn't see this agenda, all they see is what the party and the media wants them to see.

Politicians have personal views on the topics of the day. Unfortunately, our political process is so fucked up they feel like they owe more of loyalty to the party than their own convictions.

This is what bugs me about American Politics.

It's not that you guys don't know this information.

Its that the gov't doesn't respect us enough to freely provide us with it.

Take a look at the political Right. Who has the most influence there? Politicians or media personalities like Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly and conservative groups like FreedomWorks or the Heritage Foundation?

Limbaugh has influence over the public.

Not the real decisions that get made everyday.

    The public that elects politicians.

They also have direct control over politicians, the head of the GOP has gone as far as apologizing to Rush for contradicting him.

My mind wasn't blown (and I've seen it before).

My own opinion aside, have you read any of the critical reviews, such as that by Peter Bergen? As I recall, several of the factual elements of the documentary are suspect, and the analysis even more so.
