I'm thinking of the worst fights that have broken out on message boards....
Parenting in general can be a very heated topic. How to discipline kids, how to deal with someone else's kids when they misbehave, what to feed them, whether having a parent stay home is important, how much freedom to give them at certain ages, whether to encourage gender roles....probably plenty of others
Psychiatric medication, particularly its use in children. Its safety, its effectiveness, whether they are overused, whether certain psych conditions are "diseases" in the medical/biological sense....I recall plenty of huge arguments over this.
Diets are a big one. Odd, but that's been my experience. The best ones to lose weight, the best ones for optimal health, whether the "four food groups" are really best for human health, whether milk is good for us or not. One poster once joked after a fight broke out, "You know what they say about keeping it light. No discussion of religion, politics or low-carb diets". One of the biggest arguments I've ever seen on a certain board surrounded the meaning of the word 'vegetarian' and who has a right to call themselves one. Yup. Food talk can get people arguing for some reason.
Oh, body image issues too. Idealization of thinness in the media, whether its responsible for our widespread food and emotional health issues, whether models should have minimum weights, the extent to which they contribute to eating disorders, whether people are too concerned about food and weight or not concerned enough, what the ideal attitude toward food and weight should be.
